What it is

Founded 1984. Thirteen Grade 1 races (plus the Filly & Mare Sprint, Filly & Mare Turf, Turf Sprint, and Juvenile Turf) crammed into one weekend. Friday is "Future Stars Friday" — the juvenile championships that crown next year's Derby contenders. Saturday is the senior card, closing with the Classic.

Eclipse voters use Breeders' Cup results as the primary input for divisional championships. Horse of the Year is decided here in 70%+ of recent years.

Betting the Breeders' Cup

The two-day Pick 6 (across the BC card) regularly carries a guaranteed pool of $1-3M. Most syndicates + sharps target the multi-race exotics rather than individual win bets — fields are deep enough that finding longshots in the Pick 4 / Pick 6 is where the value sits.

Each race rewards a different style. The Classic and Distaff favor pace-pressers + closers off a hot fraction; the Sprint is pure speed; the Mile is tactical turf form; the Turf is a stamina test for European raiders. Handicap by surface + distance, not by the trainer's quote.
